Next Show :: 8 April

After an incredible Sixth Birthday show last month, we’re back at Under The Bridge with five more acts. The show, as usual will at Under the Bridge underneath Stamford Bridge (home to Chelsea FC) and hosted by multi-award winning comedian Matt Richardson

FUTURE KICKS

It’s hard not to notice The Future Kicks; they are not like most bands out there. With a combination of pop, electronic and rock influences these five boys have been working solidly on creating a contemporary, lively and dynamic sound with top producers including Tim Powell (Girls Aloud, Kylie Minogue, Sugababes), Red Triangle (Loveable Rogues, Alexandra Burke), Jester (JLS, Olly Murs, Pixie Lott) and Chris Young (The Wanted).

Whilst working hard in the studio, the boys have also been steadily building a solid, dedicated fan-base with their numerous live performances around the country. In a short space of time The Future Kicks have found themselves sharing a stage with Alexandra Burke, Charlotte Church and Loveable Rogues to name but a few and recent school’s tours have proved a huge success.

LEAH McFALL

It is often said that ‘the best things come in small packages’, a proverb definitely not short of the truth when talking about Leah McFall. She may only stand 5′ from the ground but when it comes to vocals this wee beauty is a giant!

Growing up in Belfast, Northern Ireland with a daily dose of Motown, Jazz, Gospel, Folk & Pop being play around the family home, Leah took influence from all she heard, which is reflected in both her vocal & song writing style.

With her unique voice, rich tone & not to mention her 5 octave vocal range; Leah McFall is one artist to keep an eye & ear out for as you’ll be hearing a lot more from this feisty Irish talent in the future.

ETHAM BASDEN

At just 15 years old, it is hard to believe the maturity with which Etham writes but with a life of experiences behind him, and a passion to write and perform, each of his songs is honest, personal and straight from the heart. He has already been writing with a host of top producers and recently supported Nina Nesbitt on a string of dates.

GREG FIDLER

Greg Fidler is a pop singer / songwriter / producer from the East of England. In 2012, his debut EP ‘Watch Me Fall’ was introduced to a rapidly building fan base with his latest single ‘Without You’ out now on iTunes.

SID BATHAM

Sid Batham is a 22 year old singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from London.
Having practised his craft and written for years Sid has built up an impressive back catalogue, allowing him the luxury of presenting his music and live show in fully finished form.

Sid’s debut EP ‘Reputation’ is a compelling introduction to his sound – R&B with strong pop sensibilities and soulful vocals with a rock edge. At times moody, often playful and provocative, this is pop at its biggest and most dramatic.

Christmas Party

The Future Kicks

This week we partied! Christmas style! Five of our favourite acts performed for a one-off show at XOYO in East London. Thanks to www.bringthenoiseuk.com/ for this great review:

With Christmas but a few days away, and to mark the end of the year, tonight it is time for Showcase:LIVE to provide its fans with the pick of the best acts of these wonderful monthly events. Arriving at Shoreditch’s XOYO venue, the perils of the clenching cold ensure that we are all arriving in hope that tonight’s events will warm us into a festive fruitiness, not just encouraged by the alcoholic beverages and great company. Our hopes were not in vain.

The dark shadows of the venue ascertains that the stage is the main focal point, draped with lights, and the recognisable Showcase:LIVE logo sits proudly in the centre of the set. Tonight no introductions are made, and the show begins when a rather beautiful sound-check immediately catches the attention of the animated crowd.

Jody Brock

The subject of this sound-check is in fact 20 year old singer-songwriter, and Brit school graduate Jody Brock who sumptuously channels a simmering mist into the air with his emotional husks conjuring an honest revelation about his relationship troubles. Now that Brock has the audience sipping on his smooth dark voice, gentle and warm like mulled wine, with his soulful Deconstruct My Love, the handsome crooner confesses how he is not good with relationships, telling the crowd how “I self-destruct half way through”. A gentle undertone of jazz in Brocks music tickles the covers of Emeli Sande and Pink with his own attitude, with the latters Try convincingly devoted to Brocks fear of relationships. Overall, this set has us hooked on every word, watching the vocals as they climb into the heights, despite a spout of tonsilitus. 8/10

The Future Kicks

Screams elope from the crowd as the next act walk onstage, The Future Kicks, an animated quintet containing members from Newcastle, and Carlisle. The raw energy that this band evokes straight from the off, especially with their song Addictive is exciting. The members clearly have crowd interaction down to a T, and are exceedingly confident fulfilling that pop rock jump made famous by bands such as Busted and Mcfly. My Kind of Music is an anthem yet to be rightly celebrated, with all of the five members’ faces full to the brim with happy vitality. Previously known as Promo Girl, the band amended their name to fit their growing success with having moved to London, working with an exciting array of producers and writers, and attending important premieres. The bands lead singer Zen, at a glance a Slash lookalike, is easy on the eye like the rest of the members, with an elevating rock guitar stretching throughout their set, cultivating edgy rock pop, it is no wonder that Radio 1 described the band as “The next Kings of pop”. 9/10

Luminites

The next act to perform is Luminites, an exceedingly fashionable quartet, consisting of males, bar one mesmerising female, smoothing the rough edges sharpened by the fierce attitude in which the effortlessly cool band compels. Each member has their own definitive addition to the array of talent in their music, performing their single Bring It with both energy and ease. The vast parallels of the band ensure that their sound is distinctive, and sincerely promising, from beat-boxing, to swirling harmonies, to robotic pop and locking, these guys seem to be fit with everything they need to ensure success. 8/10

M.I.T.S.O.T.U

Unassuming onlookers tonight will recognise this stylishly deluxe band from this years’ X Factor, making it all the way to the judge’s houses, however, tonight they bless us with their presence, and what a presence it is. Adorning the stage with a shower of rhinestones, the band, an acronym for Music Is The Soul Of The Universe, explode on stage with their lively performance sending loud, confident waves of powerful vocals dancing into the air and blossoming into a beautiful bright cascade of great music. The bands passion for music is undeniable, and their joy in performing is highly contagious, the crowd finding it incredibly hard to resist dancing along. 9/10

Joywride

Heavy with camp guitar riffs, and reigniting the memory of Freddie Mercury, Joywride are a band who have been described as a “mid 80’s Queen and Daft Punk side project”, this shows through as their soaring guitars flick and pirouette in front of the crowd. The set is incredibly loud, embodying a gut wrenching guitar wipe, with lead singer Ollie Wride’s lunges encouraging a rather humoured split in his pants. A few sound issues hinder the set, however, the bands determination is admirable, and single Headrush goes down a treat, a particularly rose tinted lullaby with bands dynamic 80’s synths painted into the background. 7/10

As we exit the venue, and are once again victims to the cold, the biting temperatures are forgotten as the adrenaline of tonight’s ensemble rushes through our veins. If this is what 2012 has to offer, we cannot wait for 2013.

Review courtesy of ILLUSTRIOUS PR

September 3rd saw the return of Showcase Live to Under the Bridge and I find myself saying this a lot, it didn’t disappoint!

With the venue filling up nicely the first up were Wolfe, made up of Charlotte Hamson, Natalie Hamson, Victoria Becks & Laura Brophy. The girls are a breath of fresh air in the girl band world, their music is folk-pop, catchy, edgy and equally brilliantly written, their lyrics really mean something and they sing with plenty of emotion. The girls were cleverly styled, trendy not over done and carry themselves with an air of mystery. I was operating the cameras so had the best seat in the house, the girls are gorgeous and equally as friendly. I would love to hear more from them.

Abi Phillips was the only act I knew of before the show and she lived up to the great things I have been hearing about her. Only 18 years old, her control and stage presence are to be commended, she is a great songwriter and knows how to put on a great show. She should also be commended on the outfit, yes I was looking and yes I was jealous!! Abi really has all it takes to catch the eyes of the music industry, I wouldnt be surprised if this time next year she is achieving great things, she also has an endearing personality, the right mix of confidence and friendliness, not to mention her amazing mum!

Mr Charlee Drew was a big surprise for me. George had told me he was amazing but I wasnt expecting THAT amazing. Ed Sheeran, Sway and Lemar have already shown their support for Leicester born Charlee. With 1.5 million youtube views under his belt, 2012 is an exciting year and I cant wait to see whats next. My favourite track from his set was ‘You did me a favour’, Charlee can hit notes I didnt think were possible for a guy, I could listen to him all night. He also has a cheeky little smile and bundles of energy making him just really great to watch.

Im going to keep this brief in fear of being singled out as an obsessed fan. Venice, 5 lads from High Wycombe, I went to uni there so I was already sold on the first line! Vocals, guitar, bass, drums and keys, these lads are so clever in their music that at one point I forgot I was operating the cameras and was filming just a random shoe, who’s shoe I have no idea! I did my research before the show and ended up watching the video for their single ‘Heart that could heal’, I instantly liked their music but their look was left a mystery as they dont actually appear in their video. I was, er… pleasantly surprised when I turned up for soundcheck, great music is imperative, but being easy on the eye is an added bonus in my opinion. The lads also have a great sense of humour, they were laughing and joking in the green room and were a pleasure to have at Showcase Live.

I was really intrigued when I was told a DJ would be headlining the September show, I missed sound check so was completely unaware of what was going to hit us! Krystal Roxx is a female DJ, resident DJ at Hed Kandi and official UK DJ for Taio Cruz. Krystal brings a mix of great tracks, energy, live instruments, lighting effects, humour, sass and well… shes hot too! What more could you want. Krystall Roxx accompanied by a saxophonist, electric guitar and drummer bought the house down, Ive never seen a showcase Live crowd go as mad as they did during her set. Her set jumped from old school tracks to current and back again, cleverly mixed. Bundles of personality and great fun, Krystal Roxx was a great addition to the dynamics and was a perfect ending to the night.

Showcase Live presents Vince Kidd UK tour

vince banner

Vince Kidd, finalist of The Voice UK, has teamed up with Showcase Live for his first mini headline tour and here are the details:

20th June: London, UNDER THE BRIDGE

http://www.seetickets.com/Event/VINCE-KIDD-UNDER-THE-BRIDGE/Under-The-Bridge/641858

21st June: Manchester, SOUND CONTROL

http://www.seetickets.com/Event/VINCE-KIDD-SOUND-CONTROL/Sound-Control/641860

23rd June: Brighton, COALITION

http://www.seetickets.com/Event/VINCE-KIDD-COALITION/Coalition/641859

Appearances can be deceiving and Vince Kidd is a fine example of how true this is. His small frame, bleached hair and tattoos provide a startling contrast to his big, rich and husky voice; more reminiscent of a seasoned old soul-man than the young urban rebel he appears to be.

The 21 year old son of a South London cab driver and the only musical member of his family, Vince is no stranger to being called a misfit. He was singled out as a child to join the local church choir but quit after one rehearsal, “because it didn’t sound anything like Sister Act.” He soon discovered vocal heroes Lauryn Hill, Sam Cooke and Terence Trent D’arby and spent years trying to imitate them before deciding he wanted to write his own songs in his own style. Sony/ATV publishing quickly realized his ability to pen a good tune and signed him to their roster of talented writers in 2011. Since then he has been working on his own brand of ghetto-fabulous pop which incorporates throwback soul, hip-hop swag and is bound for nothing less than Illuminati status.7
